Our CHAI-Story

CHAI Begins

June 17, 1983

Community Homes for Adults was founded on June 17, 1983. The first residents moved into Miller House the following March.

Second Group Home

January 15, 1987

CHAI opens its second group home, Levy House, and doubles our residential capacity.

Third Group Home

November 5, 1997

Todd House opens and provides services to six more residential clients and their families. We are no longer just CHAI house...we have 3 houses!

To The Big Stage

April 16, 2001

In collaboration with the JCC, CHAI residents perform in the first Habima Theatre show. Habima has been a highlight of our year ever since.

Wolens Program

February 17, 2004

    The Wolens Program is launched providing life skills training, supported employment, social activities and a support group for family members.

Continued Growth

July 23, 2010

CHAI opens its sixth and seventh group homes, Toub and Bauer homes, which provide care for six additional residential clients.

Our Family Grows

August 1, 2015

Yale House, CHAI's first leased home, is added followed by a 2018 renovation to Levy House. These changes added 5 more spaces for CHAI residents.

40 Years of CHAI

November 1, 2022

Today, CHAI operates 8 group homes providing quality care, programs and services to facilitate a meaningful life for our 29 residents.
