2026 Annual Meeting – March 4, 2026

CHAI Annual Meeting Celebrates Community, Leadership, and “Life As A Family”

Community Homes for Adults, Inc. (CHAI) held its Annual Meeting on Wednesday, March 4 at the Aaron Family Jewish Community Center, bringing together families, residents, supporters, volunteers, and staff for an evening that honored connection and celebrated the true meaning of “Life As A Family.”

The event was warmly emceed by Co Chairs Jim Bishkin and his daughter Katie Bishkin, whose heartfelt opening remarks set the tone for the night. They reflected on what it means for CHAI to provide not just care, but genuine belonging for adults with intellectual disabilities.

CHAI’s CEO, Lisa Brodsky, shared updates on the organization’s recent accomplishments and future goals, followed by outgoing Board Chair Ricki Shapiro, who offered reflections on her years of leadership. In a meaningful moment of transition, Ricki passed the gavel to Linda Swartz, officially installing her as CHAI’s new Board Chair for 2026–2028. Linda then carried out her first official duty: swearing in the 2026 Board Members.

As is tradition, CHAI honored individuals whose leadership, service, and compassion strengthen the CHAI community. The 2025 award recipients were recognized for their dedication:

• Milton P. Levy Leadership Award – Ricki Shapiro
• Cherished Angel Award – Larry Schoenbrun
• Volunteer of the Year Award – Madison Colen
• Community Partner Award – Temple Emanu-El
• Employee of the Year Award – Gwen Chandler

The evening concluded with moving remarks from Sandy Kaman, Board Member and sister of former CHAI resident Morris. She spoke lovingly about the 25 years that CHAI was “family” to her brother — a powerful reminder of why this work matters and the profound impact CHAI has on the lives of residents and their loved ones. Sandy also shared her appreciation for everyone involved in planning the Annual Meeting, closing the night with both gratitude and hope.
